Ophthalmic
Cyclosporine has been widely hailed as a major medical breakthrough
for the treatment of keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS), commonly known
as "dry eye." Unlike artificial tears, published reports indicate
that ophthalmic cyclosporine decreases inflammation of the cornea and
conjunctiva, increases tearing and may induce regeneration of atrophied
lacrimal gland tissues. Without ophthalmic cyclosporine, millions would
needlessly suffer from KCS.
